Just a quick note:
We solicit features.
We do not take requests to feature.
If we want you to feature, we will contact you!
If you have received an invitation to read at the
series, please do the following:
1) jump for joy.
2) please let us know right away if you are interested.
Since most feature offers are made via email,
please respond by email.
if yes,
3) confirm your reading date.
a) in some cases a specific reading date is offered,
and there are reasons why this is done. If you
can read on the date offered, great! Let us know!
b) in some cases a range of dates is offered,
and you should let us know which one works
best for you!
c) if you are offered only one date to read,
and you can't read on that date, let us know that,
and we may be able to schedule you for a later date.
4) Please let us know your mailing address
(and telephone/cell number):
(is there another email address that is better for you?)
5) we need a 75 word bio.
only you know what you may want emphasized,
and what is forthcoming (publishing sites are not
always up to date). Keep it to 75 words. We prefer
that you do not grab a page or two from a Web site,
and ask us to cut it.
6) In the feature offer we will make it clear
how much we are offering for the reading.
In some cases (but not in all cases) we may be able
to get funding for you through the League of
Canadian Poets or The Writers' Union of Canada,
but you have to be a member, and qualify.
7) We may be able to provide a travel allowance
to features who are coming here from outside
the city of Toronto. Accommodation may also
be possible, depending on funding. Please let us
know if you need a travel allowance and/or
accommodation.
8) Your reading would be for 15 - 20 minutes.
(preferably closer to 20 minutes)
Not over 20 minutes, unless required to do so.
Some readings are required to be of a different
length (for example: a reading through Canada
Poetry Tours, or through the Canada Council
for the Arts may require a longer reading)
9) Here is some information that is also
listed on the home page:
a) The Rowers Pub Reading Series is the new kid
on the block, incorporating in May 2007.
b) We feature both poets and fiction writers on
the same night, and will present a diverse line-up.
c) We will tend to present established writers,
but there will be a few spots for those who are
just starting their career, but are writing at a
very high level. We plan on presenting the best
poets and fiction writers we can find, with an
emphasis on Canadian writers, but will have
some international writers as well.
d) The doors open at 7:30, and we anticipate the
first reader to begin reading at about 7:45. There
will normally be two other featured readers, each
of whom reads for 20 minutes, with 15 minute
breaks in between. The evening should be over
by 9:30 p.m., but people do hang around after.
e) There is no open stage.
f) We run the first Wednesday of the month,
October - May, and the second Wednesday in
June, in order not to conflict with the Griffin readings.
g) The Directors of the Rowers Pub Reading
Series are: Ian Burgham, David Clink, Catherine
Graham, Ned Hagerman, and Halli Villegas.
10) Please see information about Harbord House
by visiting "Our Venue".
11) If you require any further information, let me know.
Thanks!
